With over 30 years of professional experience as psychologists, we have dedicated our work to supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. Throughout these decades, we have witnessed the evolution of therapeutic approaches and, above all, the growing evidence supporting the importance of multisensory intervention as a fundamental pillar in the comprehensive development of children with autism. Our clinical experience has allowed us to observe how structured environments, carefully designed to stimulate the senses, promote self-regulation, communication, attention, and emotional well-being. In this context, the Snoezelen approach has proven to be an especially valuable tool. Through multisensory spaces, a safe environment is created that encourages exploration, reduces anxiety, and strengthens the therapeutic bond, facilitating meaningful learning processes that respect each individual’s pace. The training we completed directly with Ad Verheul, co-creator of the Snoezelen concept, marked an important milestone in our professional development. This experience allowed us to deepen our understanding of both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of the model, consolidating our intervention from an ethical, humanistic, and evidence-informed perspective.
Thanks to this specialized training, we have strengthened our therapeutic strategies in support of children with autism and their families, promoting spaces of care that honor each person’s uniqueness and foster their abilities. We firmly believe that multisensory intervention not only enhances development, but also dignifies the therapeutic experience, transforming it into a meaningful encounter that generates well-being, trust, and shared growth.
